CareSource Purchases Community Choice MichiganPurchase Finalized

, Ohio, December 4, 2007 – CareSource, a leading nonprofit public-sector managed care company based in Dayton, Ohio, today announced that it has finalized the purchase of Community Choice Michigan.
“We’re excited to have the transaction completed, allowing us to move to the next level of service for our members in Michigan,” said Pamela B. Morris, President and CEO.
The acquisition represents a strategic move for CareSource in the Medicaid and Medicare managed health care arena and demonstrates CareSource’s long-term commitment toward providing the highest level of quality health care to Michigan consumers. The purchase brings nearly 49,000 Michigan Medicaid members into the CareSource family of companies.
“I am also pleased to announce that Gary M. Kirk, MD, MPH, has assumed the role of Medical Director for our Michigan plan,” added Morris. “We are focused on enhancing our leadership team to help drive growth while continuing to integrate day-to-day operations into our established infrastructure. The addition of Dr. Kirk is a great first step in that direction.”
Dr. Kirk brings valuable experience and leadership in community health programs as well as pediatrics. Previously, he served as Director of Clinical Program Development at Mott Children’s Health Center in Flint. In addition, he served as Director, Bureau of Family, Maternal and Child Health with the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH), and also held the position of Director, Division of Immunization, with MDCH. He is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and received his clinical training from McGill Faculty of Medicine. He holds additional advanced degrees in public health and health professions education.
CareSource plans to maintain its office near Lansing and expects a seamless transition for providers and members. The company anticipates renaming the plan in 2008.
CareSource is one of the largest and fastest growing Medicaid managed care plans in the nation, serving plans in Ohio and Michigan. In Ohio, CareSource currently serves more than 553,000 Medicaid consumers. In January 2008, CareSource will begin serving dual eligibles in both Michigan and Ohio with its new CareSource Advantage Special Needs Health Plan.
Community Choice Michigan, a non-profit Medicaid managed care plan that has served consumers in Michigan for 11 years, was formed in 1995 by 17 Federally Qualified Health Centers. CareSource and Community Choice Michigan have had a successful partnership since August of 2003 when a management contract was put into place between CareSource and Community Choice Michigan.
