Mandatory Enrollment of Pregnant Women into Health Plans Begins October 1, 2008

Effective October 1, 2008, the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) will require that Medicaid eligible pregnant women change from a voluntary to a mandatory managed care population. All newly eligible pregnant Medicaid beneficiaries who qualify for Medicaid coverage due to pregnancy will be required to enroll into a Medicaid Health Plan. To ensure continuity of care, these enrollees will be able to continue to see non par providers with whom they have established a relationship, until after their post partum visit.

Additionally, as of this date, all Maternal Infant Health Program (MIHP) services provided beneficiaries enrolled in managed care health plans must be billed to MDCH and will be reimbursed via Medicaid fee-for-services. MIHP providers should submit claims for dates of service on or after October 1, 2008, to MDCH. MIHP providers and health plans are required to collaborate on the delivery of MIHP services to eligible enrollees.
